Happy Birthday, Nick Schwartz! Nick is a spectacular Bass Trombone player that I knew and worked with during my years at the Juilliard school. Its been three months since Ive featured a trombonist in the #BirthdayQuest, and Nick is the first Bass Trombonist to be featured! Hes played with numerous fantastic orchestras ever since we left the J, and hes currently the principal bass trombonist for the NYC Ballet! Nick & I have another connection: I spent 5 class days a week for about two years with his main squeeze, who played piano for my conducting class at IU! Since Nick is the first Bass Trombone to be featured in the #BirthdayQuest, I decided to use one of my favorite Bass Trombone excerpts as the foundation for his theme. It comes from a Russian work that Ive conducted several times in concert, and the Bass Trombone in particular brings the right sound and color to this passage to kick lots of tail! I end up using the entire excerpt for his theme, and (as usual) it is presented in its original theme. Check the bottom of the info section on the YouTube page to see what quote I used.
