Happy Birthday Percy Sledge who is celebrating a birthday today! This 2005 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Inductee was born on this date in 1940. Sledge had worked many blue-collar jobs including as a hospital nurse in the 1960s before achieving success through the 60s and 70s. His most notable hit being When A Man Loves A Woman. The year was 1966 when this classic went all the way to the top of the Billboard HOT 100. The song went to No. 4 in the UK when first released but it would take a Levis commercial to put the song at No. 1 in 1987.
