Happy Birthday, Tim Best! Quite a few folks celebrating birthdays today, and quite a few folks that I havent had the chance to talk with in ages! This works great, because a big part of the #BirthdayQuest is reaching out to folks that I havent seen in a while. Tonights theme goes out to the birthday celebrant Ive had the chance to work with the most: Tim! Tim is a great Pianist and Music Theorist that I knew during my grad school years at Indiana University. He & I got to do a bunch of New Music concerts together during that time- hes a great guy with a big sense of humor (which I very much appreciate) and we had tons of conversations over the years about music, education, and the biz in general. Our last meet-up was when I last visited IU, which happened during my Juilliard years. I actually ran into Tim on the street, and we had a big, impromptu catch-up then. For Tims #BirthdayQuest theme, it was his full name, processed through my Musical Alphabet Code #3, that produced the melodic material I ended up using for his theme. Its a fun groove for a fun guy, and its harmonized in 4 different ways (which he could possible analyze in his Theory class?) Happy birthday, bud!
