Happy Birthday to the captain Derek Jeter. Derek is a role model for baseball, and for every young kid who loves the game. I love baseball, and respect greatness so Jeters career was so special. Every Yankee fan was so lucky to watch a player like Jeter since 1996. Even though Derek broke my heart in the 2000 World Series, Jeter was one of the best players I have ever seen. I go back as far as the sixties, so I have seen a lot of great players. I would say only Babe, Lou, Joe D, and Yogi are ahead of him on the all time great Yankee list. His .311 lifetime batting average and 3,388 hits, the most of any Yankee speaks volumes about Derek. He was part of five of those twenty seven World Championships you guys like to talk about so much ha ha.(hey Im allowed one dig for being so nice ha)We all know there is much more to Jeter than stats. For the majority of his career he has risen to the occasion in the big spots, especially the World Series and Al Playoffs. His lifetime WS average is .321 and in the AL playoffs its .300. Two of his biggest moments were the lead off home run against the Mets in game four of the Subway Series. That blast gave the momentum right back to the Yankees after the Mets had won a exciting game three. He went onto to hit .409 and win the MVP. Also his Mr. November moment in game four of the 2001 World Series, when he hit the game winning home run against the Diamondbacks a little after 12AM on November 1st. Of course they never would have gotten there, unless he made the great flip play in game three of the ALDS to throw Jeremy Giambi out at the plate in 1-0 game. That play in that inning turned the whole series around, and gave the Yankees their fourth straight AL Pennant. I was lucky enough to be at his three thousand hit game. It was one of the best regular season games I have ever seen. Jeter once again rose to the occasion in the big spot, not only getting his three thousand hit, but going going five for five with the game winning hit in the eighth inning of a 4-4 tie game. I must say even myself Mr. Met got caught up in that great baseball moment on July 9th 2011. In the Steroid Era full of cheats and frauds Jeter did it the right way. In five years will be a first ballot Hall of Fame player. I have included a Derek Jeter highlight video for all my Yankee fan family and friends to see.
