Happy Birthday today (June 26) to Larry Taylor, who came to promimence (1967-1970) as the bassist for seminal West Coast blues-rock group, Canned Heat, appearing with them at such landmark festivals as the Monterey International Pop Festival & Woodstock; Larry also had a long & distinguished career as a session musician - he served as resident bassist for many Monkees sessions, including Last Train to Clarksville & (Theme From) The Monkees; he played in John Mayalls first all-American backing band on such albums as USA Union (1970) & Back to the Roots (1971), then briefly with Sugarcane Harris in Pure Food & Drug Act; he has played on several Tom Waits albums & is the bass player in his touring band; in recent years, Larry has become a leading exponent & practitioner of the acoustic upright bass in the contemporary blues scene…
