Happy Birthday today (Nov. 2) to Dave Pegg; with his distinctively melodic approach to the electric bass, hes been equally successful playing British folk with The Ian Campbell Folk Group (1967-68), folk-rock as the longest serving member (since 1969) of the pre-eminent Fairport Convention (including seminal 1970 UK #13 album, Full House), while simultaneously recording & touring with rock band Jethro Tull from 1979-95 (including albums Broadsword & the Beast, Under Wraps, Crest Of A Knave, Rock Island, Catfish Rising & Roots To Branches); Dave has recorded as a solo artist & appeared in countless recording sessions for the likes of Nick Drake, Richard & Linda Thompson, Sandy Denny, John Martyn, Steve Ashley & Ralph Mctell; he co-manages Fairports Woodworm record label & organizes their annual Cropedy Festival; in 2002 Dave & the other members of Fairport Convention shared in the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2002 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards; in 2007, a major retrospective of his career was issued, the 4-CD A Box of Peggs; since 2010, Dave has also performed, in France, with the Breton band Red Cardell…
