Happy Birthday today (Nov. 24) to Pete Best, who first came to prominence as the original regular drummer in legendary UK Merseybeat band, The Beatles; his mother Mona opened The Casbah Coffee Club in the cellar of their large house in Liverpool - it became a very popular youth hangout, with a membership of over 1,000; The Beatles (at the time known as The Quarry Men) played some of their first concerts there, with Pete joining in, as well as playing his first band, The Black Jacks; The Beatles invited Pete to join on 12 August 1960, on the eve of the groups first Hamburg season of club dates; he was eventually replaced by Ringo Starr on 16 August 1962; after working in a number of commercially unsuccessful groups, he gave up the music industry to work as a civil servant for 20 years; in time, Pete began giving interviews to the media, writing about his time with the group & serving as a technical advisor for the 1979 TV film, Birth of the Beatles; in 1995, the surviving Beatles released Anthology 1, which featured a number of tracks with Pete as drummer, resulting in a substantial windfall for him of between £1 million & £4 million from the sales; he started The Pete Best Band in 1988, releasing the album Haymans Green in 2008; in 2007, Pete was inducted into the All You Need Is Liverpool Music Hall of Fame as its Charter Member…
