Happy Birthday today (Oct. 1) to New York guitarist Earl Slick, best known for his many collaborations over the years with David Bowie; he succeeded Mick Ronson as lead guitarist for the 1974 Diamond Dogs tour (resulting in live album David Live) then played on the albums Young Americans (1975) & Station To Station (1976); he formed short-lived The Earl Slick Band, releasing two underated albums in 1976; Earl returned to Bowie for the 1983 Serious Moonlight tour & on tours supporting the Heathen (2002) & Reality (2003) albums; his most recent collaboration was for Davids 2013 comeback album New Day; in the mid-80s, Earl formed Phantom, Rocker & Slick with Slim Jim Phantom & Lee Rocker of The Stray Cats, releasing a pair of albums; he has also worked with the likes of Leo Sayer, Ian Hunter, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, John Waite, Tim Curry & The Cures Robert Smith; as a solo artist, his best-known work is the 2003 album Zig Zag, featuring guest turns from Bowie, Smith & Joe Elliott…
