Happy Birthday today (Oct. 14) to UK musician & producer Thomas Dolby, whos stage name originated from a nickname that he picked up as a youngster messing around with keyboards & tapes; his 1982 album The Golden Age of Wireless (US #13) & hit single She Blinded Me With Science (US #5) were instrumental in popularizing the modern electronic sounds of the 80s; he also scored the 1984 UK #17 single Hyperactive from second album The Flat Earth (UK #14); Thomas has also been a member of Camera Club & served in Lene Lovichs band; as a producer, he has worked with the likes of Joni Mitchell & Prefab Sprout; since 2001 Thomas has served as Musical Director of The TED Conference, an annual event in California that attracts some of the worlds foremost thinkers, inventors & speakers; he is currently a Professor of the Arts at Johns Hopkins University; his latest album is the 2011 A Map of the Floating City…
