Happy Birthday today (Oct. 2) to Mike Rutherford, who first came to prominence as the bassist/guitarist with UK prog-turned-pop band Genesis (1986 US #1 single Invisible Touch, 1992 UK #7 single I Cant Dance, plus six UK #1 albums); along with keyboardist Tony Banks, Mike is one of only two members to be onboard with Genesis for the duration; he is known for his signature bass/12-string double-neck guitar, custom built from a separate Rickenbacker hollowbody 12-string & 4001 bass; Mike wrote the lyrics to many Genesis songs after the departure of original lead vocalist Peter Gabriel, including such international hits as Follow You Follow Me, Turn It On Again, Land of Confusion & Throwing It All Away; he has also recorded solo (1980 Smallcreeps Day & 1982 Acting Very Strange) & with his side group Mike & The Mechanics (1989 US #1 & UK #2 single The Living Years); Genesis was inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame in 2010…
