Happy Boxing Day from St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands en route to St. Kitts. A fantastic Christmas day was followed by a very relaxing day exploring this former Danish colony (which strangely still drives on the British side of the road.) Shopping is the name of the game in Charlotte Amalie (the small capital city), but as we didn’t need jewelry, purses, or liquor we opted for a few hours of just strolling down the streets with Danish names and checking out a few local churches which date to the 17th century. Before heading to the beach we decided a few conch fritters and a local rum drink (Cruzan, of course) and free Wifi at Jen’s Deli were in order. Since we were late getting started, we decided not to take the ferry to St. John’s (our favorite, of course) or Tortola and instead head for a local beach. As four other cruise ships were in port today, on our server’s recommendation, we skipped the well-known Magan’s Beach which would have been far too crowed and headed instead to Emerald Beach. Warm water and white powdery sand made for a nice relaxing afternoon---life is rough indeed!
