Happy Christmas (eve) everyone from Lancelot! Heres how to make compostable christmas decorations inspired by the children of Eigg Primary School. You will need flour, salt, water, a bowl, hands, embroidery thread and needle (or normal thread and needle will also work), paint or food colouring and a paint brush. x Make a dough with 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 3/4 cups of water. The salt makes the dough inedible to bugs and children and also makes the dough slightly sparkly. x Roll into a series of small balls to make a pretty string or craft into other shapes. You can roll out a sheet and use biscuit cutters too. x Bake at 200 for ten minutes or leave to dry overnight. You want the shapes to still be soft in the centre for the needle to go through. x Paint the shapes. And leave to dry. x Thread the string through the centre of the shapes. (the dough is fragile and it will hang better this way). If you are making the string of balls like I made, leave plenty of extra thread so that you can cut off the messy bit around the needle and arrange the balls after they are all on the thread. x You are done. Hang them on the tree. Note : The paint may not be compostable. Check your paint and think about whether the compost will be used to grow food. Over and out.
