Happy December, Dancers! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving weekend. Time is flying, the holidays are almost here, and Candela has been open two months now. It’s amazing how much has happened! Candela was featured in a new downtown newsletter; there was a story about us in the Daily Courier; and our grand opening was a bustling success. We’re looking forward to another fun month ahead. Because of the holidays and Sarah’s vacation, there are fewer classes this month, so please read the schedule carefully. Some quick notes: • Candela is hosting a Latin Dance Party this Friday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. during the First Friday Art Night in downtown Grants Pass. The event is FREE. Details can be found here: https://facebook/events/1518711305051112/ • Candela now has a website: candeladancestudio • A reminder that there’s open West Coast Swing dancing after class every Monday, from 8:45 to 10 p.m. The open dancing is free, and it’s a great chance for those at all levels to practice and get to know fellow dancers. • Classes cost $7 each, or $20 for a four-class punch card. The youth price (under 18) is $5 per class, or $17 for a four-class card. • Private lessons are available • The studio is available to rent for private parties and classes. Candela is a great place to have a holiday gathering! • Any questions? Call Melissa at (541) 291-7900 or email candeladancegp@gmail The December schedule is as follows: ~ MONDAYS ~ 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. – Beginning SALSA 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. – Beginning WEST COAST SWING 8:45 p.m. to 10 p.m. – WEST COAST SWING open dancing (free) Taught by Melissa $7 per class ~ WEDNESDAYS ~ (Except Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve) 6 to 7 p.m. – Guided SALSA practice session Open dancing No class $3 ~ THURSDAYS ~ (No class on Dec. 18 or Christmas) 6 to 7 p.m. – BELLY DANCING (all levels) 7 to 8 p.m. – BACHATA (all levels) Taught by Sarah Melville of Simply Dance $7 per class ~ DANCE INSPIRATION ~ Each year, the top West Coast Swing dancers train and perform at the U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships, which takes place over Thanksgiving weekend in Burbank, California. Most WCS competitions are spontaneous and improvised, but the Open also features the best of the best doing choreography. Here is one of my all-time favorite routines by Benji Schwimmer and Torri Smith, performed at the U.S. Open in 2011. They won again this year, and I’ll post that video once I have it in high resolution. Enjoy! https://youtube/watch?v=rrdyvApWB90
