Happy Easter and 4/20. I tend to take a Bill Hicks-ean view on holidays like Easter. Few holidays embrace the sacred and the profane like Easter. Very few music projects that I have been involved with embody that spirit like this one. I got the chance to translate and adapt some Hopi chants and prayers back in the 80s while writing the book for a ballet score. That project morphed into a weird, bizarre and wonderful benefit album. Jonathan Elias wrote the music to this piece for his album and a couple of actors born with the name Esteban read the words. After more than 20 years of estrangement from my own father, we began our reconciliation on Easter. That was about a year before he died. I do include this piece in my CC Writer/Chansongs Easter collection which includes my first poem written when I was 9 called Easter Time (unpublished), a very silly comedy song about Easter called Jesus Biscuit that I wrote a long time ago with Steve Adams. That song has not, to the best of my knowledge, been recorded. Father and Son did get recorded. Father and Son We are the birds of fire We fly across the heaven We sing with our light We are the stars that sing They are gone The hunters The dancers The Earth will tremble The whole world is coming
