Happy Friday Mississippi! Its been a splendid ending to what - TopicsExpress

Happy Friday Mississippi! Its been a splendid ending to what started out as a nasty week weather wise. Were still seeing several rivers at or above their respective moderate flood stages including the Big Black River at Bovina and the Pearl River at Jackson and Monticello just to name a few. The bad news is, more heavy rain is on the way to Central Mississippi as we head through the second half of the weekend. Oh, and dont forget to enjoy the heat and humidity while it lasts... Weve also got a big cool down on the way. With increasing clouds tonight, we will see relatively mild temperatures, in the mid to upper-50s in most spots. Tomorrow, dewpoints will climb into the 60s which is when it begins to feel very sticky/uncomfortable outside. Expect a breezy day as well with win gusts out of the south upwards of 20mph. Its all ahead of our next threat for rain showers and thunderstorms which will move in by Sunday afternoon and Evening. Well climb above the 80° mark in most areas as clouds build in and well see a few scattered showers through the afternoon on Sunday. The best chance for rain will move in with the strong cold front diving in out of the plains through the early morning hours on Monday. Most areas will see 1-2 with some areas seeing as much as 2-4 by late Monday. This means that our primary threat, once again, will be flooding. With the ground already being supersaturated, expect those flooded creeks and swollen rivers to once again swell to or above flood stage in some areas. Some flood waters which have begun to recede might be halted or reversed entirely from this latest round of rain. With any luck, the skies will clear out enough by Tuesday morning that we can catch a glimpse of a total lunar eclipse scheduled to happen in the wee morning hours of Tuesday. Set those alarms between 1am-4am to catch a bit of the eclipse. At the peak, right around 2:46am, the moon will be a reddish color, quite a sight to see (so as long as there arent any clouds.) Right now, its still a 50/50 shot at whether or not well get to see the eclipse due to the weather. Either way, enjoy the gorgeous start to your weekend because temperatures by the middle of next week will plummet to 15-20° below average! -Brad Maushart WJTV
