Happy Friday Music! Our main video today is an established trombone piece, but it wasn’t written originally for the trombone or in F minor. The Oboe Concerto in G minor (HWV 287) was written around 1707-10. It was a little after this time that Handel was visiting London to work and considering leaving his job as Kapellmeister in Hanover. With no jet planes nor Eurostar, it wouldn’t have been a really easy journey to make and yet he did it several times. Written in four movements, there are several good YouTube videos of the oboe playing it too. As an aside, considering the other two great composers born in 1685, Handel was the first born and the last to die (Handel: 23rd Feb 1685 - 14th April 1759, Bach: 21st March 1685 – 28th July 1750, D Scarlatti: 26th Oct 1685 – 23rd July 1757). https://youtube/watch?v=EwwFDYF6sPQ Here we have an early Classical piece from Wolfgang’s father Leopold Mozart (1719-1787). This alto trombone concerto has three movements, but is part of a larger Serenade of nine movements. Mozart wrote on the score that In the absence of a good trombonist, a good violinist can play it on the viola. https://youtube/watch?v=LWrSrgNAW2A “Hommage à Bach” was written by Eugène Bozza (1905–1991) in 1957. He was a French composer who wrote prolifically. The title suggests that compositional elements were derived from Bach, but given a 20th century angle.
