Happy Friday NWCF Nation! In todays WOD, we focus on two movements that require a high level of strength, skill & stability: The Turkish Get-Up and the Overhead Squat. There was a time when attendance on OHS days would consistently be down compared to other training days. After all, the OHS can be a very frustrating movement! But, those days are behind us as our athletes are quickly recognizing the high value of this movement! Below is a link to an article that Greg Glassman, founder of CrossFit, wrote for the CF Journal in 2005. Says Glassman, The overhead squat is the ultimate core exercise, the heart of the snatch, and peerless in developing effective athletic movement. ... The overhead squat is to midline control, stability, and balance what the clean and snatch are to power - unsurpassed. Similarly, the Turkish Get-Up is another great movement for training the core and developing strength & skill. Each piece of the TGU requires complete focus and motor control. A momentary slip in concentration or midline stability can amount to a missed lift! Heres a video of Ballard athlete Nick Villanueva crushing a TGU from last Thursdays WOD. Dont let him fool you: while Nick makes this look effortless, this is the heaviest KB we have! Get after it today, Team!
