Happy Friday all!! Wishing you all a very good weekend ahead : ) Here in the studio I am deciding which number to choose from - the black lace or the purple number to send over to Sydney for a gorgeous lady who gave me a brief of I am off to a 10 year anniversary dinner with my husband and he has mentioned it will be a pretty fancy dinner so wear something special. Both pieces have special meanings for me. Ive told you the story about the black lace and how after I quit a secure well paying job in Sydney, I went to study design in Jakarta with my grandma, who gave me an appreciation for black lace. I came back to Australia and could only afford this black lace dressy top for an interview with the only suit I had not thrown away when I left a year earlier. I wore it to about 50 interviews in a month and got a job where I met people I now call close friends. So the black lace was a symbol of hope for me. Meanwhile the purple number also hold a special spot, another reminder of my super funky grandma. Honestly, she has a whole room of dresses, show and handbags that all match each other! I think I know where I get my love of clothing from : ) But the story goes...Christmas Eve and I was at the lowest point of my life in Jakarta. I missed friends, home, freedom and security. My design system was not working plus I had trawled through my personal Facebook thinking everyone has got it so right but not me! My grandma put up with my sudden crying bursts and general rudeness (I so regret now) until one day she came out in this bright purple dress and said, I know I cannot help you through your low points. All I can do is be here with you. But if I may....you give up too quickly and care too much about what other people think!! When you get to my age, you realise that the best opportunities are missed because of those fears. Make your life about looking at the big picture and not fearing the small things. After that talking to, I told her we should go out and eat ice cream! So we did. Grandma in her purple dress (she knew Id want to eat ice cream after I reckon) and me in one of my creations I am proud of creating. So...phew after all....sorry I cannot help telling stories...which one should go in the post to Sydney - black lace or purple two-piece do you think?
