Yesterday we introduced you to Gia Margaret, and today its Cpt. Captains Kevin Smith... Kevin is an active and experienced performer and educator in the Chicagoland area. He began studying classical guitar at The University of Georgia under John Sutherland before finishing his bachelor of music degree and conducted graduate studies at The Chicago College of Performing Arts under the instruction of Maestro Denis Azabagic. During this time, Kevin competed and took first prize in the 2004 Georgia Music Teacher’s competition, the 2005 Society of American Musicians competition and the 2006 D’Addario Guitar competition. He has also studied with Sergio Assad and Pamela Kimmel, as well as Oscar Ghilia, Christopher Parkening, William Kanengiser and Marcin Dylla. In addition to his work as an instrumentalist, Kevin is also an active songwriter and composer/arranger who has created or been featured on over a dozen records ranging from country to soul to hard rock and back again. Currently, Kevin is the lead singer and guitarist of the Chicago country outfit Cpt. Captain, who recently released their new album “FIELDTRIP!”. Previous musical collaborations have included Village, which was included in Huffington Post’s, Best of Chicago in 2011.
