Happy Hawaiiana Humpday: Interested in learning about Hawaiian history? Make sure to visit the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, the Smithsonian of the Pacific! Founded in 1889 by Charles Reed Bishop in honor of his late wife, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, the last descendant of the royal Kamehameha family, the museum was built to house her extensive collection of Hawaiian artifacts and royal family heirlooms. Today it has expanded to include millions of artifacts and now houses the largest natural history specimen collections in the world. The museum also has a science adventure center, planetarium and various special/traveling exhibits throughout the year. The 125th Anniversary Exhibit, Nov 8 - Feb 3. will highlight the museum’s pivotal role in showcasing the changes in Hawai‘i over the past 125 years through photos, artifacts, and archival materials. bishopmuseum.org
