Happy Holidays! I wish you all a wonderful day, filled with special moments shared with treasured family and friends. For many of us Christmas is a day of mixed blessings and conflicting emotions. My heart goes out to all of you who have an empty chair at your holiday table, because of the ravages of addictive illness and punitive drug policies. There will be an empty chair at my holiday table this year as in many other years, but I feel lucky that I still have hope, as my son is again in rehab. I grieve for those parents who have lost a child to overdose and to those families who are separated because of incarceration. May the New Year bring more tolerance and compassion for those who must navigate the mighty waves of addictive illness, and may our combined efforts reduce the pain and suffering caused by stigma and discrimination.
