Happy Holidays to EVERYONE! Today is a Happy Day, indeed. I am warm, clothed and loved. I have opportunity and I have hope. My son is Happy that Santa Claus came to give him gifts for being good. I know some of you are on that bullshit about pagan Holidays and the white man in a suit, but as a child, these holidays and myths are about imagination--fantasy, which is a big part of childhood. I dont have a problem if you dont allow your children to participate, but close your mouth about what other parents do. I believed in Santa Claus as a child. It did not prevent me from understanding racism, nor did it stunt my growth into a Black Nationalist. It DID, however, feed my fertile imagination. As a writer, I appreciate Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny and other myths my parents lovingly allowed me to believe in. As a parent, my son believes that Santa Claus is Black. I believe that is none of anyones business. Gift giving is a wonderful thing if it is from the heart. But this time is also about family and friends. Tell someone you love them, which is the greatest gift of all. To quote my Fraternity Brother, Donny Hathaway, This Christmas...shake a hand, shake a hand. Merry Christmas.
