Happy Howlidays from Barney and the Hylers! (BHRG 2014 Scout) This Christmas season, we are especially thankful that BHRG brought this handsome basset into our lives. Since our last update, a lot has happened. On August 27, Barney suffered a Fibrocartlaginous Embolism (FCE), or a stroke in his spinal column. This left him paralyzed in his rear legs and unable to walk on his own without assistance. He was in a wheelchair for about six weeks. He slowly began to regain sensation in his legs, one at a time, and had to learn how to walk again with therapy. Now, he has almost fully recovered! He is walking and even running on his own, with only a slight wobble in his back end, lol. The only assistance he requires of us now is lifting him up stairs or onto furniture, as he cannot jump or climb. His progress has surpassed any expectations we had for him, and he has even surprised his veterinarian! We are blessed to have him here in his forever home and are excited for him to experience his first Christmas with us in NC. We are so in love with our little miracle houndie! (You wouldnt believe how many times that nose gets kissed on a daily basis!) Thank you again to any BHRG volunteer that cared for Barney before we could get to him and bring him home! We are eternally grateful. Happy Holidays! Amber, James and Barney Hyler
