Happy Independence Day Indonesia! (17-08-1945) Apart from the celebrations and the happiness after having 69 years of independence from the foreign occupations, Indonesia should always be grateful for their independence, since til today, not all places in the world have that very precious gift, and among them is Palestine. Not many people know that actually Palestine stated their support for Indonesias Independence even ONE YEAR BEFORE the Indonesias Declaration of Independence was announced. Even after the Declaration of Independence was announced, while other countries hesitated to officially recognize Indonesias Independence, Palestine and Egypt were the first countries in the world that recognized the Indonesias Independence. And that very same gratitude is returned. When the occupation of Israel in Palestine begun, President Soekarno (1st president) strongly condemned the Israel atrocities and that very same spirit of hostility and opposition towards Israel is carried out until today. The photos below are the photo of Indonesias delegation with the Palestinian Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Shaikh Amin Husaini in 1946 in Egypt during the official recognition of Egypt on Indonesias Independence. Mr Muhammad Hatta (the 1st Indonesias vice president) was also visible speaking to other Middle-eastern countries leaders, and Shaikh Amin Husaini was among them on the right of Mr Hatta. Mr Soekarno said, Dont you ever forget history, and the popular idiom of Freedom isnt free has a really good point. The price of freedom very often (if not always) have been paid with blood and sacrifice. Indonesia knows very well about the price of independence from their very 3.5 centuries long history of foreign occupations, that its reflected in the beginning (Preamble) of its National Constitution: Independence is the inalienable right of ALL nations, therefore, all colonialism (occupation) must be abolished in this world as it is not in conformity with humanity and justice And that, again, people should always be grateful as independence cannot be acquired without the grace of Allah, God Almighty, as stated in the same Preamble of Indonesias National Constitution: By the grace of Allah God Almighty, and motivated by the noble desire to live a free national life, the people of Indonesia hereby declare their independence! So, to all Palestinians, in Gaza Strip, in West Banks, in Jerusalem, and in the currently occupied part of Palestine, in New Zealand, all around the world, and especially for all my Palestinian friends (Abraham El-Matary, Yahhya Themasri, Mo Almasri, Mariam Almasri, and others that I cant find on Facebook). Indonesia is not perfect, were still a young and growing nation, were still learning, we are not yet fully cured from the disease of ignorance, we do mistakes all the time, but I hope all of you know that despite our imperfection, with the very same spirit of our National Constitution, with the spirit of our past and todays leaders, with the spirit of humanity and justice, and especially with the spirit of brethrenship in faith, in Islam, WE will always be behind you, WE will always support you, WE will NOT leave you behind, We will NOT turn our backs on you. Just like when Palestine gave us the support when we needed the most, so now Please let us give our support when you needed the most! FREEDOM FOR PALESTINE! #FreePalestine
