Happy Indian Independence Day to all.. and journalists! Happy Indian Independence Day to all of you. This year on this day, I would like to thank all the journalists in India. They play a very important role in the society. Yet, usually their lives are full of hardships. They are not paid well but every one expects them to generate informed, balanced, comprehensive and erudite content and coverage -- day after day after day. Throughout the day, they wander around for information, even in discomforting weather conditions and by evening, they need to send across their content to the editorial team. For the crime team, the work extends to late night too. Also, they are usually expected to bring in revenue to the media house that employs them in the form of advertisements. They have advertisement sales targets and that makes their work even more tough. On top of all this, they face of scorn of the public who perceive them as purveyors of yellow journalism and biased reporting. Most people who are into journalism are only because of their love and respect towards that profession. I was not completely aware of this situation earlier. But in my 22 months that I spent considerable amount of time working for public good every day in Hyderabad, I realized the plight of journalists who work on the ground. Hats off to them. I dedicate todays Independence day to Indian journalist.
