Happy Labor Day from Readings Historic Neighborhoods.In honor of the day our virtual tour now takes us to the top of Penn Street to the Volunteer Firefighters Memorial, commissioned in 1901 by the Volunteer Fire Companies of Reading.The sculptor was George F Eisenbrown, a member of the Eisenbrown family who owned the Eagle Marble Works ( later known as P.F. Eisenbrown Memorials).the figure atop the column is a likeness of then fire chief, George W Miller. The plaque is inscribed with the names of 13 volunteer fire companies then in existence.
