Happy Monday! Yesterday was mothers day and in continued recognition, todays post is taken from the Nei Jing Su Wen on the mother-son relationships of the organ systems and how each viscera is thought to be preferentially nourished by one of the 5 flavours during fetal development (can anyone say CRAVINGS?!) ;) The sour flavour gives birth to the liver which in turn creates muscles, and muscles then create the heart....Bitter flavour gives birth to the heart, which in turn creates blood, and blood then creates the spleen...Sweet flavour gives birth to the spleen, which in turn creates flesh, and flesh creates the lungs...Pungent flavour gives birth to the lungs, which in turn creates skin and hair, and skin and hair give birth to the kidneys...Salty flavour gives birth to the kidneys, which in turn create bones, and bones give birth to the liver. ~Dr.Kim
