Happy New Year! 2015 has started with a hiss and a roar. We have been busy during December and busier than usual over the holiday period and through to now. This bodes well for a positive year, which we would all welcome. Every section of the economy is different with some businesses flat out and expanding, and others still waiting for a lift in activity. The real estate market is closely connected to population growth or decline, and the employment market. Feilding and the Manawatu District grew the most in terms of population in our wider region from 2006 to 2013. This is positive, but is modest compared with the growth in Auckland. Most of the new jobs are in Auckland, although Manawatu and Feilding is attracting a steady stream/trickle of new businesses. The large developments that have taken place over the last 6 – 7 years of downturn have been very good for Feilding. Most smaller towns around the country have not had our level of development.
