Happy New Year! Here is what you can expect weatherwise for the first weekend of 2015: Today looks gloomy with temps in the mid to upper 50s. Attention then turns toward a storm system that will move into the area Friday and the weekend. Rain will spread over the area later tonight and Friday. I dont expect heavy rainfall but it will be very wet most of the day. Temps will stay in the 50s during the morning and then start creeping up into the 60s by afternoon and evening. Friday night will end up much warmer than Friday morning. Temperatures will warm even further on Saturday as a warm front pushes inland. Expect highs in the low to mid 70s. This will set the stage for severe thunderstorm potential by Saturday afternoon and evening ahead of an advancing cold front. Right now, it appears the best chance for severe weather will stay just to our northwest in the same areas that were affected last weekend by storms. The Storm Prediction Center has placed a *MARGINAL* risk area across the Gulf Coast, but I expect them to upgrade a portion of it to a *SLIGHT* risk in later outlooks, especially for parts of southeast and east central Mississippi centered on the city of Meridian. The CIPS Analog for severe weather chances shows this with the area in yellow highlighted in the image Ive provided. It is this area that looks to have the best chance for severe weather. The heaviest rain for our area will come on Saturday through Sunday morning with the cold front. The rain should be gone in time for the start of the GoDaddy Bowl Sunday night.
