Happy New Year. So 2014 draws to a close, its been an incredible year. Many things happened mostly good, some bad and some horrible. As we close the year, its time to put the year that was behind us and look forward to the year to come. Will it be a good year or bad? Will it be filled with love or fragility, failures and tragedy? Who can say? George Santayana said it best when he said “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” So let us remember the failures of the past as we move forward into the future and try not to make the same mistakes. With that in mind, each year i prepare a list of goals and resolutions for the new year. These are the things that i will be working on in the coming year and trying to accomplish. I believe that it is important for each of us to define goals for ourselves, it helps to keep us focused on that which is of importance to us. Remember these are my goals, yours may be vastly different than mine. Resolutions: 1. I resolve to always defend the weak, helpless, homeless, poor, disenfranchised amongst us. I will work to relive suffering where i can. I will work to feed and cloth the poor. To help the homeless find safe places. To help find jobs for the jobless, including myself. I will stand up for those that can not stand up for themselves. I will do so with joy in my heart and a prayer on my lips. 2. I resolve to continue to advocate for those in pain, I will continue to keep the message of suicide prevention in the LGBT communities eyes. I will continue to advocate for positive Mental Health initiatives to take center stage in the public and in our government discussions. I will continue to advocate for the removal of the stigma associated with people with mental health issues to be removed. More specifically where Transgender teens and gay persons are subjected to the heinous and horrible idea that they can be cured by the use of these so called “conversion therapies” I will continue with the message to all my Christian brothers and sisters that you cant just pray the gay or trans away. It does not work like that and never did. 3. I resolve to continue to use my writing to highlight those issues that concern me, i will continue to use every tool at my disposal to illustrate, educate and illuminate the uneducated, uncaring and unfeeling people in the world on issues of civil rights, social justice. 4. I will continue to fight for proper and good legislation that benefits all the people, that brings equality under the law. I will continue to oppose those that bring legislation that oppresses the poor, disenfranchised, homeless or other groups that are in need of protection under the law. I will continue to oppose legislation that pushes religious ideas of morality into laws that oppress or suppress an individuals right to worship how he/she desires, or not to worship at all. 5. I resolve to totally oppose any and all efforts to bring Church and State into one oppressive Theocracy. The separation of church and state by the the founding fathers was one of the smartest things they did, i will fight this idea of joining the two with every fiber of my being even if it costs me my life. 6. I resolve to continue to stand for “the truth”, Justice for all people not just a few. I will stand against the use of torture by Americans because that is not our way no matter what the reason for it is or was. I will continue to remind our elected officials that they are the servants of the people, not their masters. 7. I resolve to continue to stand up for the Civil Rights of all people, including all LGBT persons. I will continue to stand up against Social injustice and the foolish ideas of those that would do myself and others harm. I believe that everyone has the inalienable right to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as they define it. I will always defend the ideas that this country is founded on, no matter how much we may disagree as to exactly what those ideas mean. So there you have it, my resolutions for the coming year. Of course there are a number of small goals and resolutions, but they entail things like loosing 50 lbs and quitting smoking for good. I am sure i will list them somewhere on this page.
