Happy New Year! Were starting 2015 on a cloudier, slightly warmer note as a weak storm system moves through the Upper Mississippi Valley to our north, grazing the area as it heads toward the heart of Wisconsin to the east. Expect a few snow showers this morning, especially in the eastern part of the area from Rochester to the river where a trace amount of snow is expected. A thin coating will be possible in some spots through late morning before snow tapers to flurries in the midday and then a little sun may break through for the afternoon. High temperatures will be in the lower 20s, which is typical for this time of the year and as warm as anything we will have experienced in five days. Gusty west winds will make it feel a bit colder with wind chills near zero all day long. Well have plenty of bright sunshine Friday with highs in the lower 20s and lighter winds under high pressure. A couple of storm systems will merge to our southeast Saturday, bringing us a chance for some snow in the afternoon and evening with light to moderate accumulation possible. An Arctic cold front will move through the region Saturday night, allowing bitterly cold air in for Sunday and most of next week. Aside from a chance of snow Monday night, most of the next week will feature frigid sunshine thanks to Arctic high pressure. High temperatures through much of the upcoming week look to be near zero with subzero lows through Thursday. Stay warm today, in the meantime, and have a great New Years Day!
