Happy New Year everyone! For those of you who enjoy wet and muddy conditions this Sundays cross country outing is everyones favourite race - Minnis Bay! The sixth Kent Fitness League race of the season takes place this Sunday 18 January at Minnis Bay, Birchington, Kent. CT7 9QP. The race starts at 11am and will be approximately 5.5 miles long. As this years race is a fortnight later than normal we are not sure whether the tide will be out or not. If it is then the race will start on the beach as usual so a soft sandy start. The race route is mainly flat and will be a single circuit on soft open ground. Being a coastal run it will be very windy and exposed. There are also up to 5 deep dykes with standing water that have to be negotiated. The course will be very wet following the recent rain. Race HQ will be in the main car park behind The Minnis Pub and Restaurant. There are no changing facilities so changing will be in cars. There are public toilets and a cafe on the promenade where refreshments will be available. Parking is free. There will be a junior race taking place at 10.20am. Please note that this course can get particularly wet and muddy. You are recommended to bring a change of clothing with you ... and perhaps your own lifebelt! If you have not run this course before then it really is great fun and a firm favourite amongst the Fitness League runners! If you want to find out how much fun it is use the link below to watch last years race. At 1.19 on the clip you will see a dramatic entry by our own Steve Cable! https://youtube/watch?v=nsnKC5_ZhVU This is the most distant of the cross country runs for Istead and Ifield Harriers. It is therefore really important to get as many runners out as possible. Two years ago we had 19 runners take part and we finished 2nd overall in the Combined race which was a fantastic achievement. It would be brilliant if we could do something similar this time. We will be operating a car share scheme for this race. Anyone who needs a lift should be at Cascades for a prompt departure at 8.45am. Anyone volunteering to drive will be re-imbursed £15 towards the cost of petrol. This is the only Sunday cross country fixture this month so if you are able to make it then your support would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday. Best wishes. Daryl
