Happy New Year from Hanoi Introducing my Patreon Page - TopicsExpress

Happy New Year from Hanoi Introducing my Patreon Page (patreon/briangruber) Vietnamese don’t celebrate our New Year any more than Afghans celebrate Hanukkah. But somehow, yesterday, I met an American and a Canadian and we had a grand old time. I give thanks for your making 2014 a year of wonder and awe. I spent the first part of it working on my Auburn home, and winding down the bold but not quite ready-for-prime-time ShowGotv (sorry Lou and Bob and Billy and Katherine and Erik and Will and Spencer and David and so many others who blessed that wonderful project). When I turned 59 on August 4th, the 50th anniversary of the Gulf of Tonkin incident that launched the Vietnam War, I launched ”War: the Afterparty” a Kickstarter-funded visit to the scenes of US interventions around the world asking: Was the mission accomplished? Were the benefits worth the costs? Were our leaders truthful and effective? From Guatemala. Nicaragua and Panama to Serbia, Afghanistan and Vietnam, I’ve sought the narrative of local witnesses, those on the other end of the gun barrel. In a month, I’ll be done, then will head to a cheap tropical beach in Cambodia to write the book. You can check out the blog at WarTheAfterparty. To bolster the project. I’m starting a Patreon page, a very cool crowd funding platform where patrons commit, say, a buck per weekly content release. My page is at patreon/briangruber. It describes how Patreon works, the rewards, where the money goes. I launch today with zero patrons and plan to build the Patreon community organically. No big campaign. But if youre willing to commit a buck a week or month to build the base, please do. I have only one New Year’s resolution. To keep doing work that I love, with people that I love. Happy New Year.
