Happy New Year to Everyone For those of you who may not know I am the Writers Guild of Great Britain representative for this area. The WGGB supports all professional writers - authors, scriptwriters and games writers – by negotiating minimum fees, offering guidance, looking over contracts and organising events. We also negotiate reduced fees for writers for national and international events. The WGGB also issue guideline to organisations on how to treat writers. Can I stress that we only have one paid member of staff and that everyone who works for the WGGB works for nothing. The Film Committee, Radio Committee, The Awards Committee and Theatre Committee, who last year negotiated a 6% increase for Playwrights all work for nothing because we believe that writers and anyone else in this industry should never work for free. If anyone is having experiencing difficulties legal or not. ( union member or not) or feel that they are being treated unfairly contact me on wggbmerseyside@gmail and I will see what I can do or if it is a big area of concern I can raise it at a meeting of the Executive Council. Last year we had several successful networking and social evenings, we brought Paul Ashton ‘Creative England’ to Liverpool to talk about film funding. In 2015 we will be continuing to hold networking events. Future events will hopefully include a Q & A with directors, games writers, agents and publishing house exec.
