Happy New Years Eve Everyone! We want to take a second to send - TopicsExpress

Happy New Years Eve Everyone! We want to take a second to send out a quick thank you for all of your prayers and support. We also want to thank everyone for their generous donations. They really help a bunch. Medical bills from our earlier stays are beginning to show up and its nice to know we have something to mail them beyond a thank you note. LOL Kaylah continues to recover day by day. We are having fewer bad days and more good ones. Although still not herself, she is able to walk around the house with out us worrying too much about her stumbling and falling. (read: we dont have to run to her side and hover anymore every time she wants to get up and walk) The last three days we have also been walking her up the stairs 1-2 times a day to help work her legs a little more. We hope she will be fighting fit again before too long. ;) I find it amazing (and scary) how fast muscle wastes away when your loved one gets sick. Going from running, playing, and climbing on the playground to barely able to walk in just over a month. :o In related news, we were supposed to have her follow up oncology appointment yesterday (Tuesday) but it was cancelled and will be rescheduled to some time next week on account of our insurance denying Kaylahs chemotherapy. When I heard that news I had three immediate thoughts, with a fourth shortly after. The first one was oh crap, what now answer: the Dr. resubmits the order with a little love note telling them it is not exactly optional, a childs life potentially hangs in the balance. The second thought was of the insurance scene from Disneys The Incredibles of Bob Pars experiences working for Insuricare. (link attached at the bottom) Gotta keep those stockholders happy...Im trying real hard not to have tacky thoughts, but its tough. Anywho, If you have not seen this movie, its pretty cute. The third thought was that we will maybe just foot the bill for the first month while the insurance thing is worked out that way Kaylah can have her meds... we then looked up the cost for the medicine without insurance and it appears that a one month supply would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $9,500. At that point , we realized that thought was pretty unrealistic (the co-pays are going to hurt pretty bad alone.) Hopefully the insurance company will be more easily persuaded. The only alternatives we are aware of is death or miracle.... The fourth was man Im glad Im not that guy that sits behind a desk somewhere deciding who does and does not get their medicine. Its only a life hanging in the balance right? Tis not a job that I could do. We are keeping our fingers crossed that insurance comes through or that there is a reasonable Plan B.
