Happy November 1st! :}=}} Since this is the whole All Saints time of year, and a friend of mine recently lost a beloved relative, it made me remember some information I came across about losing very close family members and thought Id take a moment to share this with others... it is not gruesome, so dont worry. Studies show that when a spouse of many years passes, the remaining spouse often takes on characteristics and habits of the deceased because the brain is SO used to living like that it is difficult to reprogram it for the new way of life. I speak with some experience here as when my Daddy died he was the LAST of my living relatives making it even more difficult to let him go. I started doing things I always despised about him and finally Googled the situation and thats when I stumbled on those studies that state, rather emphatically, that you DO start becoming like them... it isnt necessarily that you changed your ways and became like them... its because your brain cant seem to let go of the daily interaction with them that always stirred either disdain or opposition in YOU so that YOU could help THEM ease their OWN discomfort. Daddy died in Feb of 2009 and this is 2013. Youd think all that would be over with, right? Not so much. I still catch myself behaving in the depressed way he did as his time drew nearer... and it still takes a while to recognize that you are doing it. But you MUST move ON! If this is happening to you, spend more time with other people... they dont have to be friends or family... just getting out in public where there are other people you dont know, but have to interact with at least for a few minutes helps keep those bouts at bay and you find yourself being YOU, instead of possessed by a loved one of the past. You owe it to yourself to be *you*! Let go of the past and dwell on the now and tomorrow. I ate at Millers Grocery and I cant wait to eat there again is never a better time to really get to know yourself than starting right this minute. :}=}} ::end public service announcement:: -
