Happy Rebirth Day to Mira! It was a year ago today that I stumbled across an emaciated puppy hanging out by the dumpster in an apartment complex. She was nearly hairless and her skin was raw. Standing on the hot asphalt under a blazing August sun, she was the most wretched creature I had ever seen. How many people saw this and looked away? I had to take her home, though I had no plan or experience with animals in this condition. Fortunately, Christi Schwanbeck and Kelle Mann Davis with Forgotten Dogs of the Fifth Ward Project came to my rescue. They knew what to do and soon the puppy was on the mend. By October she was quite recovered and looking for a home. I took her to a Blessing of the Animals event at a local church and would you believe the Vicar and his family actually adopted my little street puppy!? She now has a wonderful home and is living happily ever after. Dont ever believe you cant make a difference. Maybe you cant bring a mangey puppy home, but you can provide food and water, volunteer, donate, foster or adopt. Dont forget the neediest!
