Happy SangMarie to all of my Roman Catholic Christian sisters and brothers in the Gambia and in the western world. This solemn occasion I trust should bring both Christians and Muslims together to talk and share of their religious values in a world that is increasingly becoming less faithful to God and intolerance. See for instance what the Holy quran speaks about Mary that she is most favored; she is pure, she is chosen over all women of the world. Sura 3:42; Sura 23:50; Sura 21:91; Sura 19. In comparison the Holy Christian Bible speaks of Mary in many glorious ways but a special reference of her is spoken of in the magnificant, "my soul now magnifies the Lord; my spirit leaps for joy in Him." And so as we celebrate the feast of the assumption of Mary may it bring all Christians and Muslims in the Gambia and the world over to share what a magnificent woman of faith we all share and may she be an example of true religious life for all.
