Happy Saturday. I felt calm and peaceful today so I ventured to a yoga class and this picture was on the wall (the first photo, haha not the second). The photo struck me because I feel it sums up the importance of mobility training. My clients would tell you that I am very firm about proper dynamic warm-ups and staying consistent with mobility work. When first introduced, it can be tedious and seems time consuming because you just want to get to the work out already. I get it, but its negligent to skip this part of training because it is so essential; not only because it minimizes chance of injury, but because it increases the range of your lifts which means you recruit more muscle and burn more calories. It also dictates what lifts you can actually perform. Take the overhead squat I am doing in the second picture as an example. I need to stretch (dynamically) a lot before I do it. It demands a significant amount of thoracic, hip, ankle and shoulder mobility. I named just about every joint in the body (considering hip and ankle mobility determine how low you can bend or how much your KNEE flexes). By the time I got to this point in the shoot however, I had lost some of my ankle mobility so I am actually not as low as I could be.
