Happy St Crispin / Crispianus day. I believe that other than the To Be or Not To Be from Hamlet, this is the most famous soliloquy written by Shakespeare. However, unlike Hamlet with his doubts, fears and thoughts of madness and suicide, young Harry the King chooses to conquer his own doubts and fears and those of his weary, exhausted men, by inspiring them to stand tall and fight against what appear to be overwhelming odds. This is my absolute favorite speech in all of English literature. Some of the greats who have delivered it include Lord Olivier, Richard Burton and most recently Tom Hiddleston. But for my money, no one elicits the spirit and emotion of these words like Kenneth Branagh. Take 5 minutes to watch this clip; I guarantee that you will be inspired on this Saint Crispins day.
