Happy Sunday! Todays movie review is about the movie The Help, directed in 2011 by Tate Taylor. This movie is absolutely fantastic and I recommend it to people of any age for a fun movie night. The Help is the story of Skeeter, an aspiring author during the civil rights movement of the 1960s who wants to portray in a book the viewpoint of African-American maids as opposed to that of white families they work for. I thought the topic was very interesting although a bit unrealistic as I believe that Skeeters plan is very ambitious considering her situation both as a woman and in a racially messed up context. However, the plot works out for the movie. On the contrary, the background is historically realistic. Not only did the unfair treatments adopted for the black maids actually occur, but some of them were probably even worse than the ones represented. Different toilets are designed for the white family and the black maids as they bear different diseases and are potentially dangerous. Unbelievable! I loved the characters of the movie. Perhaps I felt very close to Skeeter because of her ambition to become an author and a journalist. Yet, the maids, Mimi and Aibileen, are the best bit of the film: they are amazing women who have known joy and grief in their life and always know how to deal with any situation. Their acting is hilarious, although I found their language to be very hard to understand. On the whole, the entire cast was superb and for this reason the movie was a great success. I hope you enjoyed my short review! :) A.
