Happy Suomi Sunday, Oceansouls! Today we start off our weekly visit to Finland with some music from the only Finnish band to ever win the esteemed Eurovision competition: Lordi! Not only were they the first (and so far only) Finnish band to win the contest, but to date, they are the only hard rock band to ever win Eurovision. Althiugh Lordi formed in the early 90s, the band did not even play their first live gig until nearly a decade later. Known for wearing monster masks and makeup on stage, the band has been adamant about keeping their off-stage identities private. The band toured with Nightwish in Germany in the early 2000s, each boosting the others popularity as their fame grew in the region. Their parallels to Nightwish do not end there: both bands each competed in Eurovision, and both bands have filmed movies; all at different times. Over 2 decades later, Lordi is still rocking, with a new album released earlier this year. However, lets all take a listen to the song that won Eurovision: Hard Rock Hallelujah. Enjoy!
