Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!! Heres a lesser known holiday gem, that became a family tradition. Babes In Toyland (1986) Quick Rundown: This tale starts out in Cincinnati, Ohio (you cant forget the location, thanks to the song sung in the beginning by Keanu , Drew, & Jill). A devastating snow storm is about to hit the area and Lisa (Drew) goes to warn and bring her older sister (Jill) back home from work at a toystore. On the way home, an accident happens, and Lisa finds herself on a whirlwind adventure in a different world, with characters right out of Mother Gooses tales. In this film, you will see a very young Drew Barrymore, as well as a youthful Keanu Reeves (..not that the man ages..), Jill Schoelen, Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi himself), Eileen Brennan (Clue), Richard Mulligan (Soap), with direction by Clive Donner. An exceedingly campy yet thoroughly enjoyable film. Tidbits: Babes In Toyland was a made-for-tv film that originally aired on NBC. Its popularity held for about a decade more, to the point where it was played each year on Thanksgiving. Eventually stations stopped playing it & now you cant even get it on DVD. *This was the movie adaptation of the operetta of the same name, which was created between 1870-1924.
