Happy Thursday, friends! The question today is who or what are you worshipping – who do you serve? Matthew 4:10 “Then saith Jesus unto him, get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” Some years ago, I was approached by a spirit, representing a secret society (while I slept) and promised riches, if I would join them. This is a true story. I was at the end of three years of intense personal Bible study, fervent prayer, and fasting (as led by the Holy Spirit). The devil, I’m sure, was concerned about the impact such dedication to the Lord God Almighty would have had on me and those with whom I would have come in contact. So, he tried to divert my attention away from the awesome power of God and the work the Lord was preparing me to do, by tempting me with wealth, at a time when I was most vulnerable and in need of financial assistance. Of course, the Spirit of the Lord in me declined the enemy’s offer. Some of you may recall a song by George Beverly Shea in which he declared “I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold......I’d rather have Jesus than anything….” Jesus said in our text, “for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” Are you willing to go without the trappings of ill-gained wealth and temporary success, in order to worship and serve the true and living God? Will you say no to voodoo, obeah, and other occult activities, which present a false hope of wealth, power and prosperity in an attempt to prevent you from placing total trust and faith in Jehovah Jireh; and ultimately steal your soul? Child of God, be it resolved that we will worship the Lord our God and Him only shall we serve. May the Lord bless you and keep you, in the name of Jesus of Nazareth!
