Happy Today I have decided to be happy Not slap happy But happy To allow my thoughts to drift away from all the rift Rest from the confusion Graveyard shift Switch Stronghold Lift Replace Look up and let the sunshine on my face Soakin’ in my melanin To concentrate on something great Even in a messed up state Happy Those five letters for me I must admit feel quite absurd Happy Deaf Unheard Happy Unseen Blurred Happy The word comes out slurred Shaken not stirred Foreign to me Third world Pain filled life Seeking to be transferred Preferred Sing Free as a bird H-A-P-P-Y Feels like pie in the sky Why has it never really truly resonated in my life? Is this an experience for the afterlife? To me that just doesn’t sit right Happy I want to overflow in it Reaching every nook and cranny Happy It may seem uncanny But some days I just want to be free from misery Not having to slip on my big girl panties You feel me? Take five From all this shuck and jive Happy Imma take for a test drive Damn Just longing to feel alive Can I get a high five?
