Happy World Environment Day! Today, June 5th, 2014, Barbados becomes the first Small Island Developing State to host World Environment Day! Bridgetown, Barbados hosts World Environment Day (WED) , leading the way in solar energy. The Caribbean island is on the cutting edge of the fight against climate change. GIZ environment experts are on site and participating at the event, timely, as they are concluding a 10-day fact-finding mission on water utility management with a focus on non-revenue water in Saint Lucia and is envisaged to spread across the Caribbean in collaboration with the Caribbean Water and Sewerage Association. In addition, GIZ preparations are on-going for the hosting of a regional workshop scheduled for June 16-20, 2014 which will be addressing sustainable financing marine management plans. Last but not least, a row of enthusiastic individuals and organisations together with GIZ, both government and non-governmental, are teaming up to assist in addressing the matter of sea turtle poaching, beach sand mining, and deforestation at the Grande Anse Bay in Saint Lucia.
