Happy birthday to Julian Cannonball Adderley. If I had to answer who was the baddest, funkiest, most proficient, funniest, most melodic, most hardest-swingingest kick-ass instrumental musician ever to come out of the state of Florida, it would take me two seconds to say Julian Cannonball Adderley. First ever heard him in high school, when the signal from New Orleans stations occasionally made it all the way to Jacksonville late at night. From college on, he was the North Star for the R&B players I knew in Florida. Here he is playing a blues jam with a title slapped on it--Them Dirty Blues. To play a get-down blues solo is the test of a great musician, and Cannon could just kill it like nobody else.
