Happy birthday to MARK LINDSAY (born March 9, 1942), best known as the lead singer for PAUL REVERE & THE RAIDERS. The Raiders had a string of commercially successful singles in the 60s and 70s including Kicks, Hungry, and Good Thing, all of which peaked inside the top 10, and their No. 1 single, Indian Reservation. Three of their studio albums—Just Like Us!, Midnight Ride, and The Spirit of 67—were each certified Gold in the U.S. (selling over 1 million units each.) In the mid-60s, Lindsay and the group caught the attention of Dick Clark, who was developing a new afternoon TV show for the teen market called Where the Action Is. Clark hired the group as regular performers, and Mark Lindsay soon became one of the premier American teen idols of the 60s. Dick Clark created another TV show hosted by Mark Lindsay and Paul Revere, Happening, which also prominently featured other members of the Raiders. Happening 68 was so popular that the group also hosted a daily version over the summer of 1968 on ABC-TV, called Its Happening. After leaving the Raiders, Lindsay had a successful solo career with such songs as Arizona, which sold over 1 million copies and was awarded a Gold Record, and Silver Bird (Billboard #25). In 1971, Lindsay recorded Indian Reservation to be a solo recording, but the decision was made to release the song under the name The Raiders and it went on to be the groups only No. 1 record.
