Happy birthday to one of the kindest, most generous, loving, caring, selfless, patient, wonderful men I have ever known. He has given my mom the happiest & most content years of her life for over 20 years now. He makes me not worry about her for even one second of one day, because I know as long as she is with him, everything is going to be ok. He was a good friend to my dad (who, like me, never really had that many TRUE friends) in the last years of his life, which allowed us to function as one big, weird, atypical but happy family, and that truly meant the world to me. He makes me not miss my own dad quite so much, because he treats & loves me like I have always been one of his own. He & my moms relationship gave me hope that even at over 40, I shouldnt give up on finding the right person for me because - as annoying as it is - sometimes true love just takes its own sweet damn time. Sometimes the right person has been in your life for quite some time, but destiny doesnt allow it to stick - for whatever reason - until you are really ready for it & its the right time. The happiness they have, the silly moments between the two of them that make me smile, the ease of their friendship, & the steadfastness of their love is something I have always wished for myself and wasnt sure I would ever find. But I finally did. Had it not been for knowing their amazing story & seeing firsthand that there are such things as happy endings, I would have given up on happiness for myself long ago. He makes the best gumbo & shrimp creole ever. He bakes the yummiest butt crack birthday cakes youve ever had. He is talented, he is handy, and he can load a dishwasher like a Tetris MASTER. He can fall asleep watching a Nascar race like a CHAMP, and he reps the Purple & Gold like a freshman at LSU. Hes the loving, caring, respectful, & responsible son that every parent hopes their kids will grow up to be. Hes the husband that every good woman dreams of. Hes the father that every child should be lucky enough to have. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my stepdad, Keith Blackwood! Stepdad is really just a title, a word of association. But it is SO inadequate for you, because you are SO much more to me. I cant thank you enough for just being YOU and for what you have brought to me & my moms lives (and everyone else around us) over the years. We all are so much better & happier for knowing you & having you as part of our family. Thank you for everything & I love you
