Happy endings are the best part of what we do and we love sharing those with you through the pictures we post. But sometimes the story before the happy ending merits sharing. This is Rei’s story. Rei was welcomed into Bella last week, arriving in horrible condition. He is severely underweight, has lost most of his hair due to an extreme case of sarcoptic mange, is suffering from infections in both eyes, and has open sores from scratching. Rei is a purebred Standard Poodle, but as you can see from these pictures, he looks nothing like he should. Amazingly, even in this degrading condition, he seeks out the comfort that comes from the loving hands of human touch. In the true spirit of a dog, he has not lost faith in people but instead has accepted his foster family so that their love can begin the healing process. We share this story with you so that when Rei’s adoption day arrives, you can see all the small victories he achieves with the help of his amazing foster family. Because of Rei’s condition, he has to be isolated from other animals and people. Even though precautions must be taken, a group of very dedicated fosters and volunteers visit Rei every day to make sure he is getting the attention he wants and needs. It will be a long road for Rei but we know he will soon return to his former self. When he is ready, our fosters and adoption team will work together to find him the perfect forever home. While we look forward to sharing his happy ending with you, we know it would not be possible without the dedication of our amazing fosters.
